Holistic Guernsey counselling

Couples counselling offers a safe and confidential space where, together with the support of a Counsellor you can explore any issues that are currently affecting your relationship. Many couples begin counselling when there is a significant event in their life or when they become unsatisfied with each other.  It could be a breakdown in communication or trust between you or an increase in arguments or conflict that brings to seek the support of a Counsellor to discuss the issues in a calm, supportive environment.

Counselling is a safe space which allows two people to explore their thoughts and feelings in more depth and to face the difficult emotions and experiences that life can bring. The Counsellor provides the support and expertise needed to allow both partners to express their true feelings and emotions within a confidential space.

Couples counselling can mean different things to different people and in different contexts. In general, it is an opportunity for two people to talk through their problems and any difficult feelings in a safe, gentle and confidential space. Couples counselling works by providing a confidential space to enable focused listening and talking by each partner, thus enabling them to come to terms with, and sometimes re-evaluate, their own thoughts and emotions towards the relationship.

By working with a Counsellor over an agreed contract in a safe therapeutic framework, couples often find it possible to address emotional stresses past and present and to explore thoughts and feelings. A Counsellor will not give you answers or tell you what to do, instead they will help you explore your issues with you as the “expert in you and your relationship”. It is a journey where you will both be encouraged to talk about what's bothering you or hurting. A place where you can safely and confidentially explore the roots of these feelings and each others reaction to them, thus enabling you to re-think and resolve emotionally painful processes. Thinking and working together with the Counsellor to move forward with greater strength and understanding and creating the changes in your life, relationships and your future self.

The counselling room is a relaxed and non-judgemental space where confidential exploration of your emotions, feelings, challenges and stresses can take place. The Counsellor offers a therapeutic environment and expertise to enable both of you to work through and address past and present emotional stresses or traumas and explore your thoughts and feelings about them with each other.

Each session for couples counselling is 50 minutes long and is part of a series of sessions agreed on with both partners during the initial conversation. The initial session will be 1 hour and 40 minutes and involve both partners.

Following this, sessions may be individual or together to meet your needs and ensure progress is being made.

Throughout the process the Counsellor will review the contract length with you to ensure the counselling is meeting your needs.
